The Handmade Jewelry Designers Kristy and Barbara Romero
|
We are a mother and daughter team, Barbara is Cuban and Kristy is Cuban/Mexican/American,
a California native, and we are handmade jewelry designers with a Hispanic
flair.
Cuban music, delicious foods, and vibrant colors are a constant in our home. Barbara went to USC, graduated from the School of Architecture, and has designed numerous high-end residences in Southern California.
Working from home left me time to become involved with the kids activities and pursue other creative outlets; sport banners for my son’s teams, sewing costumes for the kids’ plays, chairing art programs and teaching art classes, managing Destination Imagination competitions, designing directories for Little League Baseball, and yet there was still time to “play” with the beads. Designing distinctive fine art Hispanic jewelry had been a hobby, now I had time to take classes on jewelry design and fabrication.
Kristy, my teenage daughter, is presently attending college, and is very talented in her own artistic endeavors, including being a computer wiz - she designed our site by learning HTML on her own. She's already won awards for her computer graphics and digital art drawings. At college is maintaining an "A" average while she studies game arts and design, one day she'll be designing computer games for women!

However, our designer beaded jewelry partnership began in earnest not too long after Kristy was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, a complex, debilitating illness that affects the brain and multiple body systems. It's unusual in someone so young, and thus far, CFS has no cure. Staying home was no longer an option, but a way of life. With so much time being spent at home and an abundance of creativity, a wonderful partnership has blossomed. We became handmade jewelry designers for family and friends and ultimately creating Girlie Girls Jewelry Studio.

We put just as much detail and thought into the design of the handmade jewelry as I did into each of the custom homes I designed. The Hispanic jewelry we design is vibrant and fun and we also have jewelry that's elegant and sophisticated. Every semi-precious gemstone, freshwater pearl, Swarovski crystal, the finest metals – Sterling Silver, gold and copper, handmade lampwork glass beads, Murano glass beads from Italy, are all carefully chosen to create an exquisite jewelry piece. Each item is handmade by us, in our design studio in Southern California. Some of the jewelry can be duplicated in small quantities, others are one-of-a kind designs: all are guaranteed to be sturdy and unique.
We want you to enjoy the spectacular pieces you have selected, wear them often, and love being a Girlie Girl! Let us become your favorite handmade jewelry designers for Hispanic jewelry and all your designer beaded jewelry needs.

Who is a Girlie Girl?
I’m Cuban/Latina and I grew-up watching my mom getting “dolled-up” to go to the market or to work. While I’ve relaxed the standards a bit,
leaving the house still means wearing lipstick and jewelry.
Girlie Girls enjoy their femininity; wearing make-up and perfume, dressing-up and feeling good about ourselves. We have retained the
“little girl” in all of us, while becoming savvy assertive women.
We are young girls, women of all ages: mothers, friends, girlfriends,
wives, sisters; students, professionals, volunteers, clerks,
writers, artists, teachers, librarians; we work in the fields of construction,
social services, police and fire protection, we serve in the armed forces.
We dress for business meetings, lunch with friends; we dress-up for
special occasions and dress-down for the weekends. We follow fashion (though not too closely),
we coordinate outfits, and family schedules; we run for fun, we run to
the market, we run to the next class, we at one time or another, seem to be running somewhere.
We are diverse in cultures and
similar in one pleasure - we all enjoy wearing jewelry – “trinkets”,
“baubles”, “charms”, “body ornaments”, “prendas” (Spanish); “Bijouterie”
(French), “Gioielleria” (Italian), “Jo’ias” (Portuguesse). Men and women
have been “decorating” themselves for hundreds of years. Why?
Probably because it made them feel good, happy, sexy, special, unique,
attractive, confident, powerful…
My daughter and I started making bracelets because we couldn’t find “the right one” at the mall.
We didn’t remember to bring the “outfit” with us to coordinate colors and style (what a
hassle), we were rushed for time, salespeople were rude and not very helpful, and we really didn’t want to buy an
expensive piece that was being mass-produced. We wanted something
“special”, something “unique”. Don't You?
So here’s your chance, assuming of
course that you’re at home, go to your closet, pick-out that dress or top,
place it next to your computer, and cruise through our site. Remember,
our designs are limited in their quantities, and ordering is easy and
secure. With a little imagination, you’ll find that unique and special piece
that will coordinate wonderfully; and if not, e-mail us with your criteria,
and we’ll custom design it for you. Have fun! You’ve earned it.
