When Daniel Swarovski first brought a sparkle to crystal, over a hundred years ago, he could never have imagined what a development
he was setting in motion. With fantasy, intuition and technical finesse, he and his ancestors have managed to expose all the facets
hidden within this fascinating material.
Swarovski (Austrian) Crystal is considered by most people to be the fines quality, full-lead crystal made today. It contains a
minimum of 32% PbO, making the crystal optically very pure. The crystal is then faceted with tremendous precision, creating beautiful
prisms. Brilliant colors and/or coatings are added to these crystals to create beads of dazzling beauty and in a tremendous array
of sizes and shapes. Swarovski Crystal is unmatched in quality. That’s why Girlie Girl Jewelry Studio only uses Swarovski crystals
in our handmade necklaces, handcrafted bracelets, and beaded crystal earrings.
In order to create a crystal that allows light to refract in a rainbow spectrum, Swarovski coats some of its crystals with special
metallic chemical coatings. Aurora Borealis, or "AB", is one of the most popular coatings, and gives the surface a rainbow oil slick
appearance.
In 1892, Daniel Swarovski registered a patent for his machine that cut crystal on an industrial scale with greater speed and precision
than the manual process. This was the start of one of the most sought after crystal production centers in art history. Daniel Swarovski
together with his brother-in-law Franz Weis and with Armand Kosmann founded the company in 1895.
Swarovski's flawless, brilliant cut jewelry stones caused great excitement and were coveted everywhere. They sold incredibly well to
the Parisian fashion houses and jewelers. For this reason, Swarovski concentrated initially on the production of jewelry stones.
However, further product ranges were soon added, which today combine to make a harmonious concern with many facets.
